We have kept pace with changes in the industry and in society and the tremendous advances in communications technology over the past ten to 15 years. The growth of the Internet is such that its use is now taken for granted. Audio and video material is increasingly available from the Internet, alongside written and photographic material.

The journalistic skill of communicating a message or information to an audience is being applied to the challenges posed by a rapidly changing society. The acquisition of learning and the ability to apply this knowledge is the crucial ingredient that GCD offers.

Students are taught by a combination of experienced academics and print, broadcast and visual media practitioners who work in the Irish communications industry. A combination of academic and practical learning has been the hallmark of the programme and will continue to be the basis of successful tuition.

Our goal is to develop student capacity, insight, confidence and professionalism.

Past Griffith students are working across a range of media including RTE, Today FM, Newstalk 106, Spin FM, The Star, Evening Herald, Sunday Independent, TV3 and a range of magazines, as well as TV and film production. They are involved in PR, in-house production, local radio and newspapers and post graduate studies.

Diploma in Media Techniques
This programme, from which students have won many awards and nominations teaches the kills of video production. Students on the programme, many of whom have no familiarity with the medium on course commencement, are taught how to propose and make video packages and the skills of post production, utilising advanced industry software. One of the first colleges to utilise Apples Final Cut Pro software, staff on the programme have attained high reputation in Ireland and internationally in the use of this software in a teaching environment. Lecturing staff come from a wide variety of video and TV production backgrounds and pass on their up to date skill to students on the programme.

The course is run over one academic year full-time, two part-time

Tanya Doyle – Diploma in Media Techniques Course Co-ordinator
Currently teaching in Griffith College Dublin Tanya has a background in business and finance. Graduating from DCU in 2003 with an MA in Film Studies Tanya went on to further her studies and production skills in Griffith College Dublin's TV and Video course. Tanya won first prizes for her work in the national student media awards. In addition she was awarded the prestigious City & Guilds Medal of Excellence by. Britain's Prince Philip
Tanya has been involved in the production of a wide selection of programmes, commercials, feature films, short films, documentaries and corporate videos.

Marc O'Gleasain - Lecturer
Marc O'Gleasain is highly regarded internationally as an expert in the use and deployment of Apple's Final Cut Pro video editing software. Increasingly the choice of professionals and pioneered in GCD. As with Tanya, Marc is also a graduate of this highly innovative course.
Marc has worked as an Editor on many short films, including 'Manana’ (Zanzibar Films) and 'Maelstom' (Shine-on Productions). Marc joined Loopline Productions in 2001 as Assistant Editor to Se Merry Doyle. Marc has worked on many Loopline productions, including ‘Living Their Revolution' (Andrew McCarthy) and John T Davis, 'A House Divided'. Marc up graded Loopline to a full on-line facility and masters all films in-house.

Martina Durac
Martina Durac has a long association with Loopline Films. She was series producer on the book show 'Imprint' and the four-part folk life series 'Hidden Treasures'.
Martina, long a respected figure in the Irish Television Industry, has been a key influence in the development of Loopline Film. She was the series producer on Loopline's book programme 'Imprint' and its sister show 'Writers in Profile', Martina's credits as producer with Loopline also include the highly successful series on Irish folk culture 'Hidden Treasures' directed by Anne O'Leary and 'Ahead of the Class' a one-hour documentary on gifted children directed by Liam McGrath.
Martina also produced Loopline's film for the Office of Public Works, the acclaimed documentary 'Farmleigh - The Story of a House' directed by Sé Merry Doyle.
On the training front, Martina is working alongside Sé Merry Doyle and Linda O'Sullivan designing and running a documentary course for emerging directors on behalf of Screen Training Ireland.
Martina teaches pre-production and project development to students on the GCD TV Video Course.

Andy Marsh
Yet another early graduate of the Diploma in Media Techniques and now Managing Director of the highly successful graphic design company Liquid Image, Andy teaches Layout and Design using Quark XPress, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe After Effects.

Max Seligman
A long time veteran of the television industry in the US Max teaches production skills and his forte, sound recording and production. Max has had a lot of experience in the area of fashion news and features.

Sé Merry Doyle
Sé Merry Doyle is a renowned Film Editor and Director of Documentary. His most recent film, as a director, was 'Alive Alive O - A Requiem for Dublin'. Sé set up Loopline Film in 1992.
He started his career in the theatre working alongside Liam Neeson, Gabriel Byrne, and Jim Sheridan. Like his contemporaries his destination would be the world of film.
Sé got the directing bug after having established a formidable reputation as a film editor on features like Joe Comerford's award winning 'Reefer and the Model' and John T. Davis' acclaimed documentary 'Hobo'.
Sé established Loopline's credentials when his first major work, a documentary on Ireland's most famous architect 'James Gandon - A Life', became a critical success.
Sé followed 'Gandon' with the groundbreaking series 'A Good Age' which tackles head-on the myths and misconceptions of old age. His most personal film 'Alive Alive O - A Requiem for Dublin' follows the plight of Dublin's street traders as the scourge of heroin and an onslaught of commercialism destroy their fragile culture.
Sé hooked up with long time colleague John T. Davis to Co-direct the feature documentary 'The Uncle Jack', a personal and powerfully evocative film dealing with Davis' childhood in Belfast and the haunting influence his uncle had on John from the time he gave him his first cine camera as a young boy.
Perhaps the biggest success for Sé was securing for Loopline the contract with RTE to produce the award winning book show 'Imprint' and its sister show 'Writers in Profile'.
Sé's latest film is based on Ireland's new "State Residence" for visiting dignitaries 'Farmleigh – The Story Of A House', a major commission from the Office Of Public Works.
Sé wears as many hats as possible and to this end programmed the Irish Film Festival at the Riverside in London until 1996 and now runs a monthly documentary slot for the Irish Centre in Hammersmith.
