Penned by IFTA nominated writer Daragh Carville (Middletown), ‘Cherrybomb’ stars young actors Rupert Grint (Harry Potter), Kimberley Nixon (Cranford) and Robert Sheehan (Summer of the Flying Saucer) in the story the story of best friends Malachy and Luke, whose friendship is tested with the arrival of troubled beauty Michelle. She pushes them to carry out dangerous and illegal tasks to vie for her affections, with fatal consequences.

‘Cherrybomb’ is produced by Mark Huffam and Simon Bosanquet’s Generator Entertainment, with Michael Casey’s Green Park Films and Octagon Films. The film is scored by renowned NI composer and DJ David Holmes (Ocean’s Eleven). Developed by the Irish Film Board, 'Cherrybomb' was funded by the IFB, Northern Ireland Screen, BBC Northern Ireland and the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI).

Commenting on the range of topics covered by the films selected for 14plus, Director of the Generation section Maryanne Redpath said: “Every year, increasingly more filmmakers view what is happening in the world through the eyes of young people. Leading this time to the search for a father in China’s remote provinces, the obsessive multimedia-wanderings of a youth who declares he will commit suicide on camera, or first explorations of love and sexuality in Taipei.”

The full selection process for Generation will be completed in early January 2009 fir the festival running from 5 -15 February 2009.
