Sea
Ireland is linked to Britain and Europe by a number of car-ferry routes. The main ports of entry are Cork, Dublin and Rosslare.

Sligo Airport is located just outside Sligo Town and caters for light aircraft as opposed to commercial passenger jets. There is one flight per day to Dublin.

RURAL
Tullaghan
Tullaghan is Leitrim’s only coastal town along its two-mile stretch of coastline at Donegal Bay.
Lough Rynn Estate
The grounds contain 100 acres of land and 600 acres of lakes. The 1832 house is filled with lavish furniture. The gardens are vast with an arboretum with Californian Redwoods.
Manorhamilton
Manorhamilton is a good base for walking and pot-holing in the surrounding hills, with the highest peak at Dough Mountain.
Mountains
The foothills of the Dartry Mountains creep into the north-west of the county. There are beautiful glens in the area and some walking trails with peaks at Truskmore and Buckode. Below Lough Allen are the Iron Mountains shared with Cavan. The highest points here are at Bencroy and Slieve Anierin
COASTAL
Lough Allen
This lake reportedly has the best pike fishing in Europe. The eastern side boasts spectacular views with the backdrop of the Iron Mountains.
Rivers and Lakes
Leitrim is bisected by Lough Allen, the first lake on the Shannon. Lough Gill and Glencar Waterfall are on the border with Sligo. Lough Melvin is located in the north of the county.

Parke’s Castle, Fivemile Bourne.
A 17th century fortified manor house, recently restored using Irish oak and traditional craftsmanship.
Lough Rynn Estate
Lough Rynn Estate contains the ruins of a 16th century Castle, with a neolithic burial site.
Cashel Bir
Cashel Bir located on the slopes of Benbo has a megalithic tomb.
McClancy’s Castle
The ruins of this castle stand on an islet in Lough Melvin.

URBAN
Manorhamilton
This town is built at the meeting of four mountain valleys in a scenic area surrounded by steep hillsides and narrow ravines.
Carrick-on-Shannon
Leitrim’s county town stands on a crossing of the Shannon just below Lough Key. This makes the town a base for angling and cruising. The town still has some Georgian houses and shopfronts. It has a modern marina. The towns most interesting building is Costello Chapel, one of the smallest in the world.
Dromahair
This is a neat village on the River Bonet, where the powerful O’Rourke clan had a palace. O’Rourke’s Table, a flat topped eminence, is located near the village.
Drunshambo
Situated near Lough Allen, is this lively town with a festival every July.
Ballinamore
In the library of this former coaching town is a heritage and folk museum and genealogical centre. The town is also a centre for angling and boating.
