Nemeton Looks to Find New Presenting Talent
30 Jul 2010 | Waterford based production company, Nemeton has decided to build on the success of its previous educational programmes and is currently enrolling for an intensive TV Presenters Course which it will run over 4 consecutive days in its television studio. 
Work Begins on National Film School Building
29 Jul 2010 | Work is to begin in two weeks on the site of IADT's new National Film School. The project, which has been awarded €5 million by Minister for Education and Skills, Mary Coughlan TD, will see the building of Ireland's first HD television studio. The building is to open for Sep/Oct 2011. 
Eanán Patterson Scores with 'Milo'
28 Jul 2010 | Irish composer Eanán Patterson will travel to Los Angeles later this year to create and record the score for TCS Productions’ new feature film, ‘Milo’. The film will start shooting in late autumn in L.A. when Patterson will travel over. The composer is currently scoring an untitled feature doc about T.K. Whitaker for TG4. 
‘Free your Film’ With Darklight
28 Jul 2010 | Sony Ericsson has collaborated with the Darklight Festival to find three aspiring film makers in Ireland, and help them make a short film each. The competition finalists will receive a €3,000 budget, a Sony Ericsson Vivaz HD video/camera phone and production support to make their short film. The finished shorts will be premiered on the opening night of the Darklight Festival, 28 October 2010. 
£22m Return in NIS Financial Report
28 Jul 2010 | Northern Ireland Screen‘s annual report for the year 2009 - 2010 has been published and shows a return of £22 million to the local economy through the group’s main production investment fund. One of the biggest success stories for the group was ‘Your Highness’ which brought in £11.78 million of this. 
UK Film Council to be Abolished?
27 Jul 2010 | John Woodward, CEO of the UK Film Council has today announced that the UK Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has informed him of its intention to abolish the UK Film Council. The decision comes in the wake of Britain’s Culture Secretary, Jeremy Hunt proposing the closure of the group. 
'Daybreak' Dawns for Seoige
22 Jul 2010 | September will see the production of ITV’s ‘Daybreak’ launch. The magazine breakfast show which will replace GMTV will be presented by ‘The ONE Show’s former hosts Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles and will feature Gráinne Seoige in the role of Features Editor. 
Dearbhla Walsh 'In Conversation with…' IFTA
19 Jul 2010 | The Irish Film and Television Academy (IFTA) will this week host an ‘In Conversation with…’ Emmy award winning Irish director, Dearbhla Walsh. Also coming soon - the Academy will welcome screenwriter Graham Linehan for an ‘In Conversation with…’ in August and will host to a Pro MAC Trends Makeup Masterclass. 
Windmill Lane Opens 'Lock Out', 36 VFX Jobs Created
16 Jul 2010 | Irish post house, Windmill Lane Pictures is currently creating a new film visual effects production facility in Sandyford in order to carry out post production work on 'Lock Out’ [working title], a new sci-fi feature film that is to start shooting in Belgrade towards the end of the year. Windmill Lane will produce all the visual effects its new Dublin facility. 
Vincent Browne Summer Replacements Announced
16 Jul 2010 | Talk show host, Vincent Browne is to be replaced by seven Irish journalists over the summer when he takes a break from his presenting duties. Sarah Carey, Kevin Myers, Sam Smyth, Eoghan Harris, Claire Byrne, Ger Colleran and Ivan Yates will all sit in the host’s chair in the upcoming weeks. 
Aidan Gillen joins ‘Game of Thrones’ Cast
16 Jul 2010 | IFTA winning actor Aidan Gillen (The Wire) has been added to the cast of the epic Northern Irish production of ‘Game of Thrones’. The Irish star will appear in the series in the role of Littlefinger, advisor to Mark Addy’s King Robert. 
Domhnall Gleeson & Ian Hart Star in 'When Harvey Met Bob'
15 Jul 2010 | Filming is ongoing on the set of a new RTÉ/BBC co-production, ‘When Harvey Met Bob’. The feature length drama chronicles the lead-up to Live Aid, an event which this year celebrates its 25th anniversary and stars Domhnall Gleeson (Sensation) as Bob Geldof, Ian Hart (Five Daughters) as Harvey Goldsmith and Antonia Cambell Hughes (The Other Side of Sleep) as Marsha Hunt. 
Lelia Doolan Talks a Lifetime of Irish TV & Film
14 Jul 2010 | As a driving force to be reckoned with in the Irish film and television sector, Lelia Doolan has, it would appear, tried her hand at all aspects of the Irish arts and made a lasting positive mark on every single one. She is without doubt someone we all need to thank for her enormous role in whipping Irish cinema and television into shape. Said debt of gratitude was this year officially recognised by her Galway Film Fleadh co-founders and the Irish Film and Television Academy who joined forces to celebrate Lelia with an ‘In Conversation with…’ event and the presentation to her of the prestigious Galway Hooker award at the festival’s closing ceremony. 
IFB Wants Filmmakers' Signatures
14 Jul 2010 | The deadline for the Irish Film Board's flagship short film scheme, Signatures, has been announced as Friday, September 3rd. The scheme looks to aid the making of live-action, fiction films that act as a proving-ground for Irish creative talents. 
Simon Perry Leaving Irish Film Board
13 Jul 2010 | The Board of the Irish Film Board (IFB) has announced that it will be seeking to appoint a new Chief Executive to commence at the start of January 2011. This date coincides with the ending of the five year term of appointment of the existing Chief Executive, Simon Perry who took up office in January 2006. 
Titian Red Looks at 'Reconstruction of Warriors'
13 Jul 2010 | ‘Song for a Raggy Boy’ co-writer and co-producer, Kevin Byron Murphy is currently working on two upcoming projects. Through his production company, Titian Red Pictures, the filmmaker is to shoot two films next year, ‘Reconstruction of Warriors’ with Oscar nominee, Lajos Koltai (Malèna) and Northern Irish drama, ‘Paperboy’. IFTN spoke to him about the upcoming films, the use of beer for holistic purposes and giving Northern Irish drama a positive spin. 
Start Date Confirmed for 'This Must be The Place'
08 Jul 2010 | Cameras will roll on the set of Italian/French/Irish co-production ‘This Must Be the Place’ on Monday, August 16th. The film is to be co-funded by Intesa Sanpaolo, an Italian bank group, in an unprecedented move. 
Irish Talent Receives Six Primetime Emmy Nominations
08 Jul 2010 | Irish television talent has come away with six well-deserved Primetime Emmy nominations. ‘The Tudors’ has been nominated for its art direction, cinematography, costumes and hair and make-up whilst Michael Gambon’s acting has been lauded as has ‘Celtic Woman’s David Downes for his music direction. The awards will take place on August 29th. 
Gerard Barrett Ascends 'Pilgrim Hill'
06 Jul 2010 | Cameras will start to roll on the set of feature film, ‘Pilgrim Hill’, on Monday, August 2nd. The debut feature film from writer/director Gerard Barrett the film tells the tale of a young farmer living at home with his mother in modern day Ireland. 
SPI & IFB Help Resolve Disputes
06 Jul 2010 | The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), through its Arbitration and Mediation Center, has developed customised Mediation and Expedited Arbitration procedures for film and media disputes. Screen Producers Ireland and the Irish Film Board will host a launch of these rules in Galway on Thursday, July 8th.
